The Death of Dr. Kumm.
Dr. H. K. W. Kumm, of the Sudan United Mission, died August 22, 1930, at his home in Pacific Beach, California, the victim of heart disease, resulting from an African fever contracted in his work in Africa. Dr. Kumm was the first white man to traverse the North Central African Divide between the Congo Shari and the Nile. He was a real missionary explorer. He was founder and director of the Board for Medical Education and Research in Africa, and also of the Sudan United Mission. Following the war, he made maps of African territories for the Paris Peace Conference. He was a member of a number of geographical and scientific organizations, and author of half a dozen books on Africa.
