Spiritual Songs 1978 - Sung Recordings

A collection of sung hymns from the hymn book, recorded at various conferences and other places.

Would be good over time to complete this collection for each hymn, and also to have recordings of traditional tunes that are used in different places rather than just the one in the book!

Texts taken with permission from Stem Publishing website.

Hi Mackie,
I don't have that one at present, though a few more have been recorded by others since I got the collection, so I'll see if that is one of them, and try to add some more of the missing ones too.

does anyone out there know of the Hespeler, Ontario Brethren? I was born into this little gathering run by my Uncles the Pilkingtons, one of which was married into the Hayhoes of Toronto.

Hi Eric, I'm assuming those were 'Tunbridge Wells Brethren'? .. I'm not overly familiar with them, though I'm sure we have some users from that company.

Dearly beloved Saints in the Lord,

I would like to convey my thankfulness and appreciation for uploading these spiritual songs in this website. It is indeed great help for me learn singing. The beloved saints who did this did really great job for His glory. Could you pease let me know some one who did this ?
I'm from a small country called Bhutan which located among the countries (Nepal, India and China) I came know personally the Savior and Lord Jesus in August 29 1992 in Bhutanese refugee camp Nepal where I spent my life with my beloved family for more than 18 years. There I served the Lord for 18 years. I had been relocated in USA in Concord
City New Hampshire on July 7, 2008. Right now I'm living with my beloved family in Akron Ohio attending the meetings in Akron Christian Assembly, Akron Ohio USA. The grace of our merciful God the Father and Lord Jesus be with you all.

Thank you

Dear brother I fellowship with a small assembly in Brawley, CA. We have long struggled to learn the correct tunes to the Spiritual Songs hymns. These recordings are so very helpful! Thank you.

And on a personal note, through these recordings I now meet every morning with my brethren who are gathered to His Name. I don't know how to fully express the joy of these moments! And where else can you meet with brethren in your own study and sing together such words as,
"All the Father's counsels claiming
Equal honours to the Son;
All the Son's effulgence beaming
Makes the Father's glory known." #14

What a find !!
Actually my Spiritual Songs hymn-book has 1974 on the title page. That was the year the KLG meetings came together with the New Zealand Stuart meetings. Before that we used the 1928 Hocking book. 1978 was the year the music edition came out. Between times i had to start the tune I remembered from earlier days.
Well done, anyway!

I was at one time gathered with a Brethren assembly and these hymns bring back wonderful memories. I work as a hospital Chaplain now and I often find myself turning to these hymns to soothe and process after a shift. Thank you for this ministry.

I grew up in the Exclusive Brethren, and was withdrawn from at age 21, now I am 56. One of my favorite hymns in our hymn book was 348 Jesus lingers still, ‘‘tis for you He waits. Also hymn 410 Little thought Samaria’s daughter. Which group of brethren did you grow up in? Good work on this website. Best to you, my friend. Brian Brothers

Hi Tom, what a find, thank you so much for this website. I grow up in the brethren as a child in Cardiff then later in England. The one hymn that has never left me was Jesus lingers still. chorus, Come and welcome, welcome, how soever will. Blessing

Hi Jeannette,

I wonder how many are familiar with that gospel hymn you mentioned:-

Jesus lingers still, 'tis for you He waits,
And He's waited for you long;
He waits that heav'n, with its fadeless joy,
May yet to you belong.

CHORUS:-
Come and welcome, welcome whosoever will,
'Tis the Saviour's gracious call;
He is able, willing, waiting now to save;
Simply trust Him, that is all.

Though your wayward feet have wandered far,
And you're deeply sunk in sin,
Yet in patient grace now the Saviour waits
Your weary heart to win.

Though His gracious call you have oft refused,
And He's sought your trust in vain,
Yet with love unchanged by cold neglect
He is seeking you again.

O surrender now, yield to love divine,
Jesus lingers for you still;
While in grace He says, "Come unto Me"
Let your answer be, I will !

Regards,

Steve H

Hi Lydia, I think the hymn beginning "Holy, Holy, Holy" is the one by J. H. Eames and is #100 in the 1951, 1962, and 1973 editions of Hymns for the Little Flock.  The two lines you quote are from the well-known hymn by Reginald Heber which probably inspired it https://hymnary.org/text/holy_holy_holy_lord_god_almighty_early

"Christ is the Saviour of Sinners" is by Heyman Wreford and is #309 in the 1932 edition, #102 in 1951, and #122 in 1962 and 1973  A recording of it is available here:
