Copy of William St. Notice
[Arundel Square] Nov 12, 1881
My dear Brother,
You said speaking of yourself & others that you “wish to know if Wm St. intends taking any further action with reference to our present position.”
At a meeting of brothers and sisters held in this house last evening, the question was fully and freely talked over. The result of our conversation may be stated in a few words.
It is the judgment of the Brethren, that they cannot own Guildford Hall as a truthful expression of God's assembly in Ramsgate in its present condition.
1st Because there has been no adequate confession of the public wrong done by that meeting against Christ and the Unity of the Spirit in Aug 1879. Confession we believe is indispensable to restoration and confidence. For this we wait that the name of Christ may be cleared and the consciences of the saints satisfied.
2ndly Because the owning of G.H. is made a term [?] of fellowship to those already in communion. This we reject as unscriptural, leading to sectarianism and - opposed to the principle of unity. Being gathered to the name of the Lord Jesus Christ on the ground of the Church of God (2 Tim 2, 19) Ephes 4, 3 we dare not add anything to that all sufficient name as a test or basis of Christian communion.
On behalf of the assembly,
Ever [affect.y?] yours in Christ,
(Signed) A. Miller
To my dear brother
[Cutler?] and others who
have seceded from us.
