Artist, author and illustrator. His father was the Victotian portrait and genre painter William Henry Knight (1823-1863) who exhibited at the Royal Academy and other galleries during the 1840s and 1850s, and whose sentimental scenes of children snowballing. On leaving school, he worked in an office, but finding the work he 'drifted into art'. Although he was self-taught, he no doubt received some help. However he became better known as a writer than as an artist. A competent scientific draughtsman and botanical illustrator. He remained a bachelor until he was 42. In 1903, he married Edith Maria Nesbit Ross and they had a son and a daughter. He was fond of the countryside and discovered many pleasant walks in Beddington Park.
Somebody kindly fulfilled my request on Find-a-Grave and took a photo of this .. though it's evidently somewhat overgrown. @Nick if you are reading this, we need to go clear that up one day!
