Tom's comment above re a clearer scan at the link he gives is true, but in my view, there are things worth saying in the prefaces that are missed in the second. For example: "The great essential is Christ, not baptism; but they who love His name will seek to keep His word. But in this it is well to remember that an unkind, critical spirit is far more to be deplored than divergent views and practices in regard to ordinances, however precious." In my denomination, believer's baptism is required for a person to become a church member. Ironside holds (Preface#2 p4,5,) that baptism does not enter anyone into anything, and I believe that is backed by Scripture. Further, this denominational teaching means that TRUE BELIEVERS are denied membership and made to feel 2nd class, weaker brethren. But if so, are not the "stronger" brethren to take special care of their behaviour toward the" weaker", especially when both take their position as being "as unto the Lord?" (See Romans ch 14 & 15).
