Born: Swaffham, Norfolk, United Kingdom.
"I was born again on Sabbbath, May 24, 1752, by means of the powerful preaching of George Whitfield. Having experienced the pains of a new birth for two years and seven months, I found full and free forgiveness through the precious blood of Christ on Tuesday, December 10, 1755. To Him be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen."
Was he prone to wander and had he left the God he loved? He eventually began preaching against the deity of Christ. One day, he encountered a woman who was studying a hymnal, and she asked how he liked the hymn she was humming. In tears, he replied, "Madam, I am the poor unhappy man who wrote that hymn many years ago, and I would give a thousand worlds, if I had them, to enjoy the feelings I had then."
Died: Birmingham, United Kingdom.
Burial: Key Hill Cemetery, Birmingham, West Midlands, England.
