I tried to submit S P Tregelles birth date (30-01-1813) and death date (24-04-1875) but it would not accept my offering and these dates are still referenced as 'unkown' [sic]. Another item which should be on the archive items under his name should be 'A letter from Mr Tregelles to Mr Gough relative to the exclusion of Mr Newton from the Lord’s table in Rawstorne Street, (London 1847)' which you have archived under http://www.brethrenarchive.org/archive/early-years/plymouth/a-letter-from-mr-tregelles-to-mr-gough-relating-to-the-esclusion-of-mr-newton-from-the-lords-table-in-rawstorne-street-london/pdf/. The letter is actually dated 16 December 1846. Timothy Stunt: 19 Dec. 2016.

The only copy of this known to me is in the British Library and when they acquired it in 1964 they didn't identify the author. Even the CBA only has a microfilm of the BL copy
One almost feels that on the eve of his continental travels when Tregelles would be outside the country for several months — he left England on 20 October 1845 — he wanted to give public expression of his support for BWN's insistence on the common basis for their redemption and eternal life shared by believers in all dispensations. S. P. Tregelles quotes Augustine in The Book of Revelation,
"Adjuvante etiam codicum veritate, quam solersemendationis dilifentia procuravit; veniat ita instructus ad ambigua Scripturarum discutienda atque solvenda"
Does anyone know what that means?

The quotation is from Augustine's 'De Doctrina Christiana' ['On Christian Doctrine'] Book iii, chapter 1. My somewhat literal translation reads: ' . . . [the believer] will be helped by the accuracy of the texts which he has obtained by skillful diligence in correcting [them]: thus prepared, let him approach the ‘difficult’ scriptures which have to be discussed and resolved.'

For my earlier literal translation to make sense, perhaps the following note is needed:
When Augustine refers to the student of scripture 'obtaining textual accuracy by skillful diligence in correcting' the texts, he is thinking of his contemporaries working in a world where printing was unknown and the scriptures were invariably in manuscript copies with the many errors that copyists always make. The reader therefore had, first, to establish with accuracy what the original text said, before interpreting it. Tregelles appears to have chosen these words of Augustine because although he [Tregelles] lived in a world that was familiar with the printing press, his mission was to establish, as accurately as possible, the original MS text of the Greek New Testament.
