The Two Resurrections
by W.T.P. Wolston
The resurrection of life and the resurrection of judgment will be as different as light from darkness.
The resurrection of life will be the portion of the man who has lived and died in the faith of Christ, and who will be raised by the Lord Jesus at his glorious second coming.
The resurrection of judgment will be the portion of the man who has lived and died in his sins, and has not known Christ. He will be raised for judgment.
I will not attempt to delineate that judgment. How could I? No tongue of man can depict that awful moment when God shall raise the wicked dead for judgment. Enough that it is a resurrection of judgment. Every sensible man should flee from it.
The wages of sins is death, but what do I see? The Lord Jesus Christ, if I may so speak, taking those wages that you and I might have the offer of salvation. I see the cross and the work He has done on the cross. He has taken all the penalties and demerit of sin, borne sins, atoned for sin, and thank God! completed the work God gave Him to do. “Now once in the end of the world hath He appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself” (Heb. 9:26). Look, look at the cross. There my sins have been borne and have disappeared.
Have you this forgiveness? Is your soul saved? Do you not think you had better be ready for eternity? “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Cor. 6:2). Oh! flee from the coming wrath.
